I started the download on my main pooter at 1230 EDT and it indicated a greater than 12 hour download. My complaint has to do more with the erratic nature of Cable TV in NE Florida. If we get a thunderstorm late today, there is a 90% certainty that the Cable will go down, if only for a few seconds, but that will break the download, and I don't know if T-S has the kind of feature that allows a restart at the point where the download stopped, or not. I have other NS routes by the same creator and I would agree that, barring a failure of the cable link, it is well worth the effort to do the download. This is the main reason that I try to keep segments of my own routes under 100Mbt. Sullivan (landnrailroader).
The Selkirk Mountains touch the sky at over 11,000 feet in southeastern British Columbia, Canada. Encircled by the Columbia River and dressed in a richly forested garment, the sheer jagged peaks produce an aura of beauty and danger.
Deep within the heart of these mountains, a transcontinental rail line passes through two different tunnels: the five mile long Connaught Tunnel and the nine mile long Mount Macdonald Tunnel, which is the longest railway tunnel in the western hemisphere. This is Canadian Pacific's route over Roger's Pass! Between Revelstoke and Field, the Mountain Sub lives up to its name with stiff grades of 2.4% that burrow under dangerous avalanche zones. Part of CP's 3,000 mile trans- continental line from Montreal to Vancouver, the Mountain Sub sees high priority intermodal trains, unit grain trains, 152 car coal trains, monster 170 car potash trains, and Canada's premiere passenger train, The Rocky Mountaineer. A combination of fantastic Canadian scenery and hard-working trains is what this program is all about!
1 hour 58 minutes NTSC No region code This program can be viewed with or without narration. Not only is Steamboat a great ski area, but a charming railroad town. We like nothing more after a day of skiing, to take our RV to the old train depot and watch the coal trains go to Denver. However, in December of 2007, there was a horrible railroad accident in Denver between a freight train and a commuter line that locked the tracks for quite a while. In Steamboat, we waited, and waited for a train to come through, and finally, what a show.
As Realtors in the desert, we were out of our element, but loved waiting and watching the trains. You'll enjoy the segment near the end, when we drove our RV along the tracks while my wife taped the train nearby out of an open window in ten degrees! The Canadian Pacific Spiral Tunnels are located a short drive west of Lake Louise AB and east of Field BC, in the Kicking Horse Pass of Yoho National Park at 5,390 feet (1,643 metres).
As a result of several derailments on The Big Hill ( over 25 years by downhill runaway trains and extra locomotives necessary to push trains up the hill, an engineer came up with the idea of running trains in a similar way as in Switzerland through a series of loops that would gently rise them or lower them in elevation gradually through spirals. September 5th 2009, marked the 100th anniversary of their completion. There are 2 tunnels, one through Mount Ogden on the north side of the Trans-Canada Highway (Number Two Tunnel), the other one through Cathedral Mountain on the south side (Number One Tunnel). Our train will pass under the Trans-Canada (#1 Highway) twice, some of which was constructed over the path of the original line. The train also passes twice over the Kicking Horse River on short bridges. The vertical rise between the 2 tunnels is very roughly 500 feet (155 meters). Each tunnel is about some 1000 yards (891m) in length and 1.62 to 2% in grade, through a three quarter circle (around 240 degrees.
It strikes every quarter of an hour. Westminster Palace. Buckingham Palace is the Queen’s official London residence.
While in the Spirals no passenger may be present, in a vestibule (or the rear gallery), due to diesel exhaust fumes, so the sequences don't actually show the inside of the tunnels. As they should. We will be entering Number Two tunnel first, turning left through a three quarter circle while rising about 50 feet (some 15 meters) higher, before and exiting the portal. We then run through the forest on a 2% grade steadily rising in elevation, as we reach the Number One Tunnel. Inside, we turn right and emerge about 50 feet higher. Shortly after exiting the portal, we encounter a westbound CP intermodal consist, waiting to go into the tunnels Going through the Spirals by regular passenger train is no longer possible except by the Rocky Mountaineer train from May to October, as VIA Rail abandoned Calgary-Vancouver service on the line and all their passenger trains now originate in Edmonton, about 2 hours north, passing through Jasper.
