1 antique World War II Japanese samurai Naval officer's sword available. The blade in this sword is an old family blade from around the mid/late 1500's A.D. This sword would make an important addition to any collection.
This sword is not signed. The nakago looks to have been shortened during ancient times so the signature was likely cut off. There are two holes in the tang--each is hand-cut. All Naval fittings are of exceptional quality. Note how much gold gilt is present on all fittings. There is a fine Naval clasped hands sarute/tassel loop. There are no menuki on the tsuka--a common variation.
There is also a fine Silver Samuri family mon. This mon is of the Chinese bellflower.
This mon represents the following Samurai clans: Ota Dokan 1432-1486 A.D., Kakegawa in Suruga, Fukazawa, Matsudaira, Oshima in Suruga, Kuwayama, Takiwaki, Sakurai in Kazusa, Toyama, and the Tsuneoka. Silver Samurai family mon are seen most often on Army swords. Family mon are not common on Naval swords.

The blade measures 26 7/8' (68.3 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This fine sword has a straight hamon/temper line. The saya is the higher-class sharkskin. This sword has its very fine, original silk Officer's tassel.
