Rolex Pocket Watch Serial Number Database

Hi A relative recently showed me an old Rolex pocket watch from their father that was from the 1930's or possibly made earlier (the case has engravings showing it was a present from christmas 1930) and I was wondering if anyone might have some information about it, or know where would be a good place to start looking to learn a bit more about the piece? I am normally into Seiko's so I don't know where to start with the Rolex. I have attached a couple photos for reference. There is a couple numbers that I took to be the serial number on the inside of the case back going over 2 lines. First line: 1002328 Second line: 196 Sorry for the crappy phone photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Well, the movement is definitely no Cortebert 522.

I think that it probably isn't any 16'' movement (I suspect it will be >40mm in diameter, which would make it an 18'' or even 19'' movement) but might be wrong on that. However, one simple difference between the Rolex movement and the Cortebert is that the stem release screw is far too close in the Cortebert. When looking at the bridge layout, this one came to my mind.and there are indeed rather more similarities between this one and the Rolex movement than between any Cortebert movement and the one in your watch.

Exact position of all screws, click, geartrain, exact shape of the balance cock and the lever cock (the Cortebert ones don't bend round at the end), plus even the bridge layout matches (that's the part that is changed most easily). The big question is now: did Rolex use Buser movements? If not, the case may be genuine but the whole thing won't be.

Perhaps someone will come up with an identical specimen which would help validate it. Until then, at least for me, there is a big question mark hanging over this one, I'm afraid.

Since your serial number falls between those two numbers, you know that your watch was made in 1917 or 1918. Not sure which serial number to use? You must use the serial number from the MOVEMENT of the watch. Sanminimum dlya prodavcov voprosi i otveti onlajn. The working part with the wheels and gears. Not the serial number from the watch case.
